Bye-Bye Porn: Telecom Department Asks Internet Providers To Block 827 Porn Sites

The government has ordered Internet service providers to block 827 sites hosting pornographic content as a result of an Uttarakhand Supreme Court order, according to official sources.

While the Uttarakhand Supreme Court has requested the blocking of 857 sites, the Ministry of Electronics and Computing (Meity) has found 30 portals without pornographic content.

Meity has asked the Telecommunications Department (DoT) to block 827 sites mentioned in the published list as part of the order, the sources said.

"… All internet service licensees are instructed to immediately take the necessary steps to block 827 sites in accordance with Meity's instructions and to comply with the decision of the Higher High Court,"

the telecommunications department said in a request made to Internet service providers.

The Supreme Court decision was rendered on September 27, 2018 and received by Meity on October 8.

Meity informed the DoT that the Uttarakhand Supreme Court had ordered the blocking of 857 sites contained in an old DoT notice dated 31 July 2015.
